Have you already achieved your goals for the year yet? Have you wanted to? Have you written down your goals? For the next month, a year, 5 years? What’s your strategy, blueprint, roadmap look like?
Beginning to write your goals down is like defining a roadmap from where you are, where you want to be, so you can devise ‘a map of how to get there’!
If you don’t sit down, reflect and write this down, how will you remember it amidst you 1000 items on your daily to do list – feed the dog, pick laundry, drop kids and the list goes on and on…
Writing and breaking your goals into manageable steps is the first place to start for any project/task worth doing. Here are three great steps to begin tasks: 1. create a ‘List of your goals’, 2. Prioritise them, 3. Break them down into steps.
Create a ‘List of Goals’
Get yourself centered and in a space of calm where you can focus on your goals where you won’t be disturbed. Take one area or category of your life at a time, then focus on what you your goal/s are in that area of your life for 2016. Write it down before moving to the next category. The thought of defining your goals for your whole life may be overwhelming but when you break it down into categories, it is much easier. As an example, start with yourself, then health, then career, finances, relationships, family, study etc.
Prioritise goals
Now that you’ve listed your goals, it is more manageable, as you look at it all in one place instead of vaguely in your mind amidst mind chatter. Isn’t is much easier? J You are now able to look at your list of goals, and prioritize which ones are most important to you up to the least importance numbering them from 1 until the number you have.
Breakdown Goals into steps/tasks
Choose a top 5 or top 10 number you’re willing to work with, perhaps the most prioritized 10 that you decide you want to work with for the year. (The others are important to you as you listed it but not as urgent to you or you would have prioritized them in Step 2). Break these ones down in to manageable steps/tasks e.g. Build garden cottage – Step 1. Ask referrals from family/friends for contractor 2. Interview contractors 3. Employ contractor.
Procrastination tip:
Remember that selecting just your ‘Top 5’ or ‘Top 10’ goals to break down to act on initially makes this process of executing them; less overwhelming, more manageable and easier to achieve, leaving you with a success vibration, where you’ll probably want to do more, and probably get to your less important ones, now that you’ve got it all on one page!
Even if you don’t achieve all your goals, at least you’re on track with tracking all of them in one place, know the status of each of them and would’ve made some progress on your most important ones! So you’re going to find a clearer mind/success vibration/be more in control of, Your Life! J
